As a Sep Teachers, we are required to present a topic for a conference that will take place on July .
Thinking of a specific topic to share with a group of people it's a little complicated, because there are many aspects that have to be taking into account such as the material, topic, time, objectives, etc. That is why I am working with my partner Antonio, we met each other and we shared ideas in order to have more ideas and choose a topic for the conference. After discussed we agreed that our topic would be " Warm ups" because we consider that students need and like this kind of activities and also that help teachers to engage students to the lesson. We as teachers realize that when students are involved into warm ups they like to have English lessons, they are motivated, they have fun, and , when we use warm ups, we have students engaged to the lessons, they are waiting for the next activity. Most of our Mexican students do not like English, they think that English is not useful, they think it is boring, but when they are having fun, they are moving around, thinking, speaking, they start being interested in the lesson. I remember a student who said that English was boring, but when he came to my class and he played and had fun, he said "teacher, I love English" that made me happy because I changed they way he saw this subject, thats why we chose this topic, because if students are engaged to the lesson with a warm up, they will be engaged to the rest of the class, and they will waiting for English class, because they will be able to play and learn at the same time.
Hopefully, I will change some views about English with my lessons.
I enjoyed your reflection and the stories of your experiences.
ResponderEliminarI think language Ts (more than most other Ts) both understand and need to understand the importance of making our lessons active and fun. Perhaps they can't be fun every single day, but in general they need to be. More than math, science, etc., foreign language is so abstract for many Ss. It's hard for them to feel any motivation to learn. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
